Thankful Thursday 3

Thankful Thursday

Giving thanks is important!  Why?  Because as you start thinking about how blessed you really are and give thanks for what you have or what God has done for you it should make you want to dwell on those things instead of the negative in your life.  That's why I decided to do as Ann Voskamp started doing. Give Thanks in the everyday things.  You should be able to find one thing each day that is good.  Look around you and see and appreciate what you are blessed with. It may be something as simple as your child's smile or their joy and delight in something they see or do. It may be seeing the beauty in nature. Flowers, trees, grass or animals.  Or if could be looking at your husband and seeing something good in him.  So, stop now and try to think of one thing that you are thankful for no matter how small. Dwell on that one thing you are thankful and let it change your day to one of thanks and appreciation for what you have and how good God is.

Decluttering My Home

While I was recuperating from my knee surgery my youngest daughter started in my living room de-cluttering.  She thinks I have too much stuff.  I call my youngest daughter a minimalist when it comes to her home. She calls me a hoarder but I'm really not or maybe I just don't see myself as one.  Let me explain how this difference between us got started.

When we had to put my Mom in the hospital then directly into a nursing home the state of Oklahoma gave us one year to clean out and sell my Mom's home.  For me this was hard to do, since Mom had a house on 5 acres.  I could have cared less about the home it was the five acres I did not want to let go of. God did a miracle in my heart so when it was sold I was able to let go and not look back. Getting it ready to sell was so much fun! NOT!! We had to trash, pack and sell stuff. My Mom had a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage home PLUS the barn.  Because I was traveling for Halliburton the brunt of the trashing, packing and selling was left up to my sister, brother-in-law and niece.   I did sort and pack when I was home long enough to do so.  Because my Mom had to live most of her life watching every penny and making sure they had enough to live on my Mother did not buy much for herself unless it was an absolute necessity. When they got older, and after my Dad died, Mom would purchase little things if she liked it. Oh, and Christmas my Mom loved purchasing Christmas decorations at the after Christmas sales.  It got to the point that she bought so much that most of it was packed in boxes and put in closets or in the garage.  Her closets, three of the four bedrooms and garage were full to the bursting point!!  Mom also was one who knew the value of things, so she did have a lot of stuff that were antiques and had value.  I'm the child who loves old things, so I did keep quite a bit of Mom's stuff. What I kept would only put a tiny dent in what she had. I love old things because they were usually better made. My sister not so much.  Let's put it this way she did not know that old wooden thread spools had value so she threw a bunch away.  UGH!!  My niece and I  told her not to throw anything away until she ran it by us.  Love my sister dearly, but you can see the differences between us.  She did know the value of big items, but smalls like wooden thread spools or old Valentines Day or birthday cards she had no idea that people would purchase such things.

So back to why my YD thinks I'm a hoarder. My garage is full due to the one storage shed I had got termites. I had to have it sprayed and then taken down. The stuff that was in the shed are now in my one car garage. It's full to the point I can't get my car in the garage..  So you can see why Kim thinks I am like my Mom.

On my defense most of what was in the shed was Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving decorations.  I have been through my entire house once before and got rid of stuff, but now I am really trying to narrow down to stuff I really love.  I've got two rooms left to go through.  Hopefully, next year I will do it again and get rid of more.  I'm not one who loves to have garage sales so most of the stuff I've either sold  or gave away.  I just might try to have one this year, but if it doesn't go well then that will be the very last one I have.

Ok everyone I'm posting this without any pictures.  I'm going to have to get back into the habit of taking pictures to add to my posts!

Everyone have a blessed weekend!

Thankful Thursday 2

God is so good.  I have been looking for the small things that He does for me, because I believe the small things are just as important as the big things He does.  To me the small things are God's way of reminding you He still cares and loves you so much.

My continuing thanks for this week are:

I'm Back

So much has happened in the last two to three years that I haven't had the time to sit down and create a post. It's mostly been 3 years of exhaustion physically and mentally. Time line of what's been going on in my life.

July 2012 to Jan 3 My mother came to live with me since her memory was getting bad. Towards the end of December she ended up in the hospital for evaluation and after the two weeks of evaluation they told us she needed 24 hour care. We had to put her in the nursing home my Dad was in before he died in 2003.

One thing I can say is that my heart goes out to those who take care of a parent. I worked and then went home and took care of Mom. I loved having her there, but it was like dealing with a young child. I was physically and emotionally exhausted after 6 months. If you are someone who is taking care of a parent I pray that God gives you the strength and energy you need to complete your task. I admire you for being willing to love and take care of your parent.

2013 was a year of exhaustion for me. Although there was the highlight in Oct, Nov & Dec of being able to travel for my work. It was fun but exhausting. My co-workers and I worked long hours helping a new company Halliburton had purchased to catch up, but we enjoyed being together and learned to work as one.  It was fun learning about my co-workers.  Things I never would have learned if we had never taken the this trip.
Sleeping during layover in Dallas Lovefield.

2014 was filled with more travel for work in February and March, but it was also a sad time for me. My wonderful Cocker Spaniel, Prince, had to be put down. His lungs were full of cancer and it broke my heart to see him suffer, but he's in a better place with Jesus healthy and whole. I was still physically exhausted all the time. The doctor stated I had depression, but every prescription he gave me made me sick. Needless to say I found other ways to help me feel better, which is get into the Word of God and find scriptures to quote over myself. It helped!!

A picture of my sweet baby Prince. Gone on to be with Jesus.

2015 Still physically tired all the time but doing better than previous 2 years. In November I had surgery on my right knee. Finally after years of pain I can walk without hurting!! Something about having this surgery was a turn around for me physically and emotionally.  Every month I seemed to get better and my tiredness has been dwindling more each month.

2016 All I can say is it has been a fun 4 months since the surgery.  I finally had my last physical therapy  Wednesday March 4th.  Now if the swelling will just go down and stay gone. As stated after surgery my physical and emotional exhaustion seemed to dwindle each month.  I am coming back stronger than before I started taking care of Mom. To God be the glory!!! So, I'm believing this year is going to be an awesome year with not only changes in my home but most importantly changes in my inner being as well as my physical and emotional being!! With God's help all things are possible!

This is my year of growth!

So, I am back and will get to do more posts about crafting, home makeovers and every Thursday by "Thankful Thursday" series.  I realize I am not the most eloquent writer but I do try to write from my heart.   See ya'll tomorrow!
